Spring Storytime
Storytime for preschoolers will begin Monday, February 6th at 10:00am. Storytime is every Monday and Wednesday morning at 10:00am. There are stories, fingerplays, flannel board, songs, and arts and crafts. The program is open and free to the public. If you have questions, please call 281-534-3812.
The Dickinson Public Library has started a Teen Advisory Group! The 3rd meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7th @ 3:30 pm.
The Teen Advisory Group, or TAG, is a fun group of teens, grades 7th – 12th, who help make the library a more teen friendly place. TAG members design and promote library programs, activities, and resources. TAG provides a great opportunity to gain experience for resumes, acquire service hours for community and honors programs, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and have fun being involved! More information can be found at Dickinson Public Library. If you know an interested teen or a student club that needs service hours or need more information contact Youth Services Librarian Meghan Hollingsworth at 281-534-3812 or mhollingsworth@ci.dickinson.tx.us

We hope you have had an opportunity to try NewsBank. Look for the America's
Newspapers
link to the left to access
current
newspapers, and the America's Historical
Newspapers to access copies of the archives of the
Galveston County Daily News and the Houston Chronicle.
This service will provide information for those of you doing
historical family research, writing reports and essays for
school, and those who are history fans. It will also be
fun for those who miss the daily paper. We hope you use it
regularly and enjoy it.
Kids, you should check out the
Tumblereadables and TumbleBookLibrary
links just to the left.
Tumblereadables are on-line books for kids from
board books to books for teens. The
TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of
material for grades K to 5 including story books, read-along
books, books in Spanish, classics, and games and puzzles.
DRIVEUP BOOK RETURN
Remember if you need to return items while the
Library is closed, the drive up book drop is open on the
north
side of the building. Enter from FM 517
or the newly paved 44th Street. All
materials, books, DVD's, audiobooks, and CD's may be returned
through the drop.
Online Public Access Catalog
It's great to see that more and more of you
are using the online tools to place holds and renew books.
The instructions are on the opening page of the Catalog, and
I'll post there here:
FIRST,
click on the Catalog link to your left.
Click on My Items. Then use your 14 digit barcode for your Patron Name or
User Name (the first information required) , and your last name,
all lower case, as your password (the last information required),
to sign in.
Once you have accessed your account (My
Items), search for the book you need, and click the
title of the
book. This will open the page with the buttons to renew or
reserve the book. You can search directly from your
account without having to sign in again.
I know this works, because I receive about
one e-mail a month from patrons of the Dickinson Library in
North Dakota to try to renew their books through our website!
We are still in the process of editing the
patron accounts to accommodate this service, so if you have a
problem signing in, please email
adelagarza@ci.dickinson.tx.us and I will make the corrections to
your account.
Once you have logged in to your account, you
may reserve books, but not DVDs, by
searching for the item, selecting it, and clicking reserve at
the bottom of the page. There is also a button which
allows you to renew your books (but not DVDs), and write brief
reviews.
See
you @ the Library!
